ISPU Policy Brief: Charitable Giving Among Muslim Americans Since 9/11
Date:
September 15, 2011
Muslim charities and their donors have come under increasing levels of scrutiny since Sept. 11, 2011. The far-reaching effects of the counterterrorism efforts are documented in an August 2011 report from Institute for Social Policy and Understanding fellow, Zahra Jamal.
Charitable Giving Among Muslim Americans: Ten Years After 9/11 describes the major shifts in the Muslim-American community’s giving practices after nearly a decade of Muslim charities being investigated, and the curbing of civil liberties of donors and charity officials. The report provides measures that governmental bodies, the nonprofit sector, academics, journalists, and Muslim American community leaders can take to protect civil liberties, promote humanitarian aid, and uphold national security.
