Banks can manage anti­laundering risk from charities, 'de­risking' of sector must stop, experts say

Brett Wolf, Regulatory Intelligence reporter at Thompson Reuters Accelus, writes about Banking for Nonprofits - The Way Forward, a recent publication from the Consortium for Financial Access, which the Charity & Security Network (C&SN) is a member of. Andrea Hall, Policy Counsel for C&SN, and John Byrne, Vice Chairman of AML RightSource and frequent C&SN collaborator, are both quoted as urging for proactive communication between banks and nonprofit organizations (NPOs) especially when the NPOs know a period of unusual financial transactions. Both Hall and Byrne are cognizent of the dangers of financial exclusion for NPOs; namely, that lives depend on NPOs being able to quickly transfer money for programming all over the world.
